About the South Kilburn Enterprise Fair
ABi Associates held its first enterprise fair for South Kilburn New Deal for Communities (NDC) at the Granville Plus Centre in South Kilburn on Thursday, February 7th 2008.
The fair, which was funded by the NDC and was free for all to attend, focused on providing information and advice to local residents who were interested in starting or developing a business.
As well as seminars on topics including entrepreneurship for the over 50s, and turning your creative talents into a successful business, a wide range of exhibitors were on hand to provide advice on business, training and educational issues. Free raffles, live entertainment from local artists and Caribbean food provided an added dimension to the event.
ABi Associates is scheduled to host a second fair for South Kilburn NDC later in 2008.
Residents feedback, pictures, and a list of exhibitors who attended the fair together with the brief details of the seminars held can be found here .
About South Kilburn New Deal for Communities
The South Kilburn New Deal for Communities area is the neighbourhood made up by the former Carlton ward of the London Borough of Brent (the area is now formed by parts of the Kilburn Ward and Queen’s Park Ward).
South Kilburn’s location is second-to-none. South Kilburn is just over a mile north of London’s West End and is surrounded by well-heeled neighbourhoods such as Maida Vale, Queens Park and West Hampstead. The Bakerloo Line - stopping at Kilburn Park and Queens Park connects South Kilburn directly to major opportunity areas at Paddington, Park Royal, Wembley and the West End. Kilburn High Road, a bustling shopping centre itself the focal point of a major SRB regeneration programme, adjoins the New Deal area at its north-easterly point. The potential for successful regeneration is enormous.
The 10-year Programme is funded through the Government's New Deal for Communities (NDC) Fund and targets the most deprived neighbourhoods in the country. The scheme focuses on five main themes, Young People and Education, Income and Employment, Housing and the Built Environment, Crime & Community Safety and Health. South Kilburn NDC has also added its own theme, which is Widening Participation, as without real community participation the programme will not be a success. www.skndc.net
